The University of Wisconsin–River Falls (UWRF) Athletics community is grieving the sudden and unexpected passing of Mindy (Rudiger) Ramberg, a proud Falcon alumna, standout student-athlete, and dedicated educator. She died earlier this week at the age of 39, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in athletics, education, and coaching.
A Falcon Through and Through
From 2005 to 2009, Ramberg made her mark as a two-sport athlete, excelling on both the women’s tennis and softball teams. Her accomplishments on the diamond were particularly noteworthy — she was a three-time First Team All-WIAC Softball honoree and continues to rank among the career leaders in multiple statistical categories in the Falcon Softball record book.
Her competitive spirit, leadership, and dedication left a lasting impression on teammates, coaches, and the wider UWRF community. In a statement, Falcon Athletics expressed their sorrow:
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Mindy (Rudiger) Ramberg. She embodied the best of what it means to be a Falcon — talented, hardworking, and committed to lifting up those around her. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.”
A Passionate Teacher and Coach
Beyond her years as a student-athlete, Ramberg continued to dedicate her life to young people as a teacher and coach in the St. Croix Central School District. Known for her infectious enthusiasm, compassion, and ability to connect with students, she inspired those in her classroom and on the field to reach their full potential.
Colleagues and students alike describe her as a role model who combined a love of learning with a deep care for others. Her contributions as both an educator and mentor will remain a cornerstone of her legacy.
A Community in Mourning
Originally from Menomonie, Wisconsin, Ramberg’s sudden passing has shaken not only the university and school district communities, but also her hometown and countless friends across the region. Tributes have poured in on social media and through the Caring Bridge page set up in her honor, where loved ones continue to share memories of her warmth, humor, and unwavering positivity.
Remembering Mindy
Ramberg’s life was marked by achievement, resilience, and generosity. She balanced her own drive for success with a selfless commitment to helping others grow — whether as a teammate, teacher, or coach. For many, she was not only a leader but also a confidant and a friend whose encouragement made challenges seem surmountable.
She is survived by her family, friends, colleagues, and former teammates, all of whom now carry forward her legacy of strength, kindness, and determination.
A Lasting Legacy
While her life ended far too soon, Mindy (Rudiger) Ramberg’s influence endures in the lives she touched and the institutions she strengthened. The Falcon Athletics family, the St. Croix Central School District, and her broader community are united in grief but also in gratitude for her remarkable contributions.
